If I have learned anything through my years of dieting, it’s that eating healthy does not have to suck! You do not have to eliminate entire food groups in order to lose weight. When we eliminate entire food groups what ends up happening is, you get burnt out eating foods you hate. And when you have just had enough of the same ole foods and you want something different, you binge eat. Not good!
Below you will find a few awesomesauce tips that have helped me on my healthy eating journey. These tips don’t include signing up for an uber expensive gym membership or eating foods you absolutely loathe! They are simple tips that can be implemented today with a little planning.
COOK YOUR OWN MEALS
Not only does this help you save money throughout the week if you work outside the home, it also gives you control over what you are eating and how much.
When we eat out, we have no idea what ingredients are being put in our food. When we prepare our own meals, we have control over the ingredients and the calories!
MAKE YOUR OWN SALAD DRESSINGS
Have you ever looked at the back of a prepackaged bottle of salad dressing? There are more ingredients that I CAN’T pronounce than there are ones I CAN! It’s kind of scary.
Homemade salad dressings are SOOOO yum and the combinations are endless!
LIMIT SODAS AND JUICES
Notice I did not say “Eliminate sodas and juices.” What I have learned is that everything can be enjoyed in moderation, even when you are trying to lose weight.
If you must have a soda at every meal, gradually start to decrease the number you drink. Start with your usual amount and decrease by one can every week. Replace those cokes with water and watch the weight come off!
Wanna know how I know this little trick? Yes, I’m guilty, I was addicted to Coke!
LIMIT FRIED FOODS AND FAST FOODS
Once again, notice I did not say “Eliminate fried foods.” Start to incorporate more grilled and baked foods into your diet.
If you absolutely cannot cut back on the fried foods, try frying your food in an air fryer! I’ve had one for a few years and I must say, it is as close to fried as you are gonna get and it is truly delicious!

PREPARE HEALTHY SNACKS IN ADVANCE
The absolute best thing that I have done is prepare my meals and snacks in advance. I’m a die-hard snacker! (Is that a word?) And I found that if I didn’t have anything healthy to snack on readily available, I would grab a bag of chips or a candy bar.
Cut up, wash and proportion everything ahead of time so that you can grab and go!
