How many blogging articles have you read like this:
-Start a blog in 10 minutes!
-How to Start a Money Making Blog Today!
-Start a Successful Blog Today!
I’ll tell you how many I’ve read, COUNTLESS. If I have read one, I have read a million (literally). I, like you, dove head first into those articles with excitement and anticipation. “Wow, I really can start a money making blog in 10 minutes!” I thought as I pulled out my credit card and bought my hosting plan. Super excited and ready to get started, I installed WordPress and BAM, I was completely stuck! All of the articles I had read and the advice I had been given was wrong! I was no longer excited, I was frustrated and downright mad. It was then that I realized, I had been suckered into the dream of making a passive income while I slept…all in 10 minutes. I am here to tell you my friends, blogging is HARD.
A LITTLE BACKGROUND
I initially started my blog with the intentions of helping others get started with side hustles. I am an avid promoter of side hustles because it allows you supplement your income, something I have been doing in various ways for about 7 years now. However, when I began to write posts, I realized that I enjoyed talking about everything. From money to fashion to relationships and everything in between. I then changed the entire course of my blog to become more of a lifestyle blog where I could discuss anything. Unfortunately, I had already bought my domain name and did not want to purchase another one, so although my blog is more lifestyle-oriented, the name remains the same!
What makes me and my blog different is that I am not an experienced blogger. I am just starting on this journey and figured I would take a different approach. Instead of starting with the all too familiar “Start a money making blog in 10 minutes” fluff, I am going to start with the raw truth. From the very beginning of my blog until now. I am going to share with you how I started, what worked, what did not and what I am constantly doing to grow my blog. There are lots of articles out there from more seasoned bloggers that offer advice on how to grow your blog and make passive income but none of them really start with how long it took them to get to that point. I am taking nothing away from these bloggers because I aspire to reach that level of success one day but I think by being a brand new blogger and offering my trials, frustrations and success points, I am able to offer new bloggers a fresh spin on the ups and downs of blogging.
BLOGGING IS HARD
My goodness! I had NO idea that I would have to figure out everything important almost on my own! From permalinks to sitemaps to removing “categories” from my URL’s for SEO purposes.
No one writes about those little nuances that you will come across and if they do, it isn’t plastered all over where it can be easily found. Luckily, I documented almost everything and am glad I did because now I am able to share these things with you.
Yep, blogging is STILL hard! Do I still get frustrated? Do I still want to quit? Do I still think to myself daily if this is all worth it? Do I still wonder if I will ever see the level of success that will allow me to quit my day job and work from home? The answer is YES! My own personal goals to be successful, live life on my terms and be financially independent are what keep me motivated. I know that I can do this but I also know that it will take more than just 10 minutes. If you are a new blogger, I encourage you to follow along with me, let’s help one another!
